Governance

Age Concern Islington is an independent local charity, responsible for its own policy, direction, and funding, as well as being a subscribing member of a network of charities sharing similar objectives, called the Age Concern federation. We contribute to a number of networks involving Age Concerns – both in London and around the country - to share information and spread best practice on issues affecting older people and charity management. These include: London Chief Executives Network; the North London Trans‑Age Action Network; Trading Liaison Group; London Business Development Group and the Finance Officers Network.

We also work collaboratively with a wide range of other local and London‑wide organisations and groups, aiming to bring Age Concern Islington’s expertise to bear on the issues affecting local older people.

Statutory partnerships

Age Concern Islington works with local statutory bodies as their service provider, providing good quality services at cost-effective prices, and reaching a wider and more diverse range of clients than is generally achieved by the statutory sector.

Age Concern Islington staff and volunteers also contribute to a number of statutory‑led committees and other fora, including:

  • Islington Strategic Partnership Board
  • Islington Health and Older People Partnership Board
  • the Older People’s Joint Strategy and Commissioning Group
  • the ‘Live Long and Prosper’ (Borough-wide active ageing) Strategy Group
  • Mental Health Working Group

Voluntary sector and wider partnerships

We are involved in numerous local voluntary sector and other networks, to ensure that we are aware of all that is available in Islington so that we can make appropriate referrals, and so that we actively contribute to spreading knowledge and best practice around the borough.

We chair the Islington Older People’s Network of voluntary organisations, comprising around 80 different local organisations. The Network offers training sessions and information on best practice for its members, and is involved in consultation events with the Council and the Primary Care Trust for the benefit of the older population of Islington.

Age Concern Islington staff and volunteers are also involved with:

  • Islington Older People’s Network of voluntary organisations
  • Islington Voluntary Sector Health Network

  • Islington Community Chest Grants Panel
