How about getting involved in a new volunteering project That's What Friends are For - which is a befriending project that matches volunteers to some of our clients who need support to get out and about, e.g. shopping, visiting a day centre, or just going for a walk.

Going the Extra Mile - new report published on improving BME access to services

Age Concern Islington has completed an action research project, funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government, exploring what steps statutory services and BME groups can take to improve BME access to services. The final report, Going the Extra Mile, includes tips and best practice as well as detailed case studies that we hope will be useful to BME groups and the statutory sector alike.

The Wednesday drop-in advice service

Our weekly drop-in (no appointment needed) advice session at our Manor Gardens headquarters is being held on Wednesday mornings (formerly Wednesday afternoons). The waiting room opens to clients from 9.30am Wednesday morning, and the advice session will start at 10.00am (with no further clients admitted after 12 noon). We cannot guarantee to see all clients on the Wednesday morning, because demand for this help can be high.

As well as our service in the north of the borough (at our Manor Gardens N7 headquarters - call 020 7281 6018 to book), we now offer our information and support appointments for Islington residents aged 55+ at St Luke's Centre in EC1, with our English, Bengali, Urdu and Hindi-speaking Advice Worker. New Tax Help appointment service

Appointments with advisors from TaxHelp for Older People can now be offered at our Manor Gardens N7 headquarters. If you are aged 60+, have a low income, and want some advice or assistance with a tax issue (other than Council Tax), then ring TaxHelp for Older People on 0845 601 3321. If your issue cannot be dealt with over the phone, TaxHelp will arrange a face-to-face appointment for you here at Manor Gardens.

The 393 bus now runs right past Drovers Centre. It runs from Highbury New Park via Highbury Corner along the Holloway Road and then along the Caledonian Road and up North Road.
It runs every 10 minutes and stops just over the road - no more hills to climb!
